Elizabeth (Lizzie) Wittig, Director of Mission Initiatives and Public Policy
Lizzie Wittig is Susan G. Komen San Diego’s Director of Mission Initiatives and Public Policy. Lizzie has been instrumental in all aspects of Grants Management, especially navigating and training on the new online grants management system. In Public Policy, she has chaired the Advocacy Alliance in San Diego for several years. She is a Cancer Rights Legal Advocate; a long-time volunteer and advocate for women’s health issues and has been part of our Affiliate for over 10 years.
Born and raised in San Diego, Lizzie received her BA in Literature and Education from Point Loma Nazarene University.
Lizzie participated in the first Race for the Cure in 1995 with her mom in support of a family friend, and has continued to walk in the Race each year since. Then, in 2003, Lizzie started volunteering at Susan G. Komen when she was just 17 years old, the same year her Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. And that is the same year she participated in her first 3 Day. She has been walking ever since. Lizzie’s Mom passed from breast cancer in 2009 – but that was six years longer than the doctor’s thought she would. Her life was extended thanks to a Susan G. Komen-sponsored clinical trial. Lizzie is passionate about this cause – and she has put that passion to work for the mission. Lizzie and her 20-person walking team have raised more than $900,000 since 2003.
