Where the Money Goes
What is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® difference?
Getting diagnosed: Komen is the only organization providing uninsured women with access to diagnostics including diagnostic mammograms (women of all ages); biopsies; MRIs/Ultrasounds and more.
Free services for living: No other organization provides an uninsured woman and her family with care across the entire spectrum of life: navigation through our complex medical system; meal delivery; temporary financial help for the entire length of her treatment; free surgery and chemotherapy; lymphedema compression garments and more.
Researching the Causes and the Treatments: Next to the U.S. government, Komen is the largest funder of breast cancer research in the world. Every piece of progress has been touched by a Komen grant.
Local Charity. Local Women.
Local: Komen San Diego is a local charity with its own board of directors. Funding decisions are made locally – to meet a local need.
Grassroots: The very opposite of a large bureaucracy – Komen San Diego operates on a very lean budget and small 5-person staff. Our costs of doing business are 13 cents on each dollar. Compare that to other charities who spend 35 cents on each dollar for operations.
Where the money goes: Of every individual dollar raised, 75 cents funds local programs; 25 cents funds international research.
