The San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is dedicated to fighting breast cancer on every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local organizations that provide mammogram screenings, treatment and material support and breast health education for underserved women. At least 25 percent of net income supports global breast cancer research to find the cure(s). In fiscal year 2012, Komen San Diego awarded $1.2 million dollars to local organizations and $400,000 to global research.
Komen San Diego is the largest private funder of mammograms for low-income underserved women in San Diego County and we will provide vital breast cancer services to over 33,000 individuals this year. Our funding focus is based on our Community Profile Report which identifies disparities and existing gaps in breast health services within San Diego County and serves as the basis for our competitive grant making process.
