Team TDA San Diego Races for the Cure: Working as a Team to Find a Cure
TDA (TD Ameritrade) San Diego Races for the Cure is a team greatly affected by and dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer. Heather Henselmeier, the founder and captain of the team, was diagnosed herself at the young age of 38 in 2008. As it was, there were several other employees of TDA San Diego who were diagnosed with breast cancer that year. Determined to make a difference by raising awareness and improving treatment for those affected by breast cancer, the coworkers researched organizations in the San Diego Area and decided The Race for the Cure was the perfect match! Since 2008, the team has grown to a very impressive 147 count, and they raised $2,550.00 in 2012 alone. Way to go!!
TDA San Diego Races for the Cure uses a lot of creativity for fundraising and recruitment. They have generated a lot of income from their raffle and bake sales – even gifting IPads as prizes! In order to recruit, the team sends out emails in the office and externally to friends and family, hosts informational meetings at the office with a Komen representative and even walks around the office donning their pink to raise awareness.
Proudly, Captain Henselmeier states that her favorite team memory is to, “See the growth of the Race for the Cure event over the years. It is especially satisfying to see all the pink shirts worn by survivors.” Cheers to that, Heather, and cheers to everything you and your team do for Komen San Diego. Countless breast cancer patients benefit from your hard work, creativity, and dedication to the cause. We can’t wait to see you on November 3!
