Team Valerie’s Angels – Walking In Memory of Valerie
Valerie’s Angels is our featured Team of the Week: stricken by adversity and now determined to have an impact on those suffering from breast cancer! Team captain Gloria Echols and her team, have big plans for this year. Gloria and each of her team members have lost loved ones to breast cancer. Sadly, Gloria’s cousin, Valerie, not only battled cancer, but was also uninsured. Though she fought to get treatment, she lost her fight at the very young age of 43.
Heartbroken by the loss of Valerie and 3 other family members to cancer in the past 3 years, Gloria and her team members were determined to make a difference. Formed in 2010, Gloria’s family and friends have walked by her side. Friends and family have all helped raise money in various ways, such as text messages, emails, Facebook, word of mouth and flyers. . . . any method that gets the word out! This year, their goal is to raise $1,000 and to recruit as many members as possible!
Inspired to keep Valerie’s memory alive, Gloria says, “She’s my angel and I’m fighting for her. She was always so full of laughter and caring for others up until the end. She left behind 2 wonderful children.” Valerie’s Angels, you are true warriors against breast cancer and we thank you for your participation in honor of all the angles at this year’s walk – See you on November 3!
