Susan G. Komen San Diego’s Circle of Promise collaborates with Kaiser Permanente, Community Health Imaging Centers, San Diego Black Nurses Association, Project New Village, San Ysidro Health Centers and Community Health Imaging Centers to bring together a monthly whole health community outreach event, “Good Health = Long Life.”
On June 7, the first of this whole health series took place. Twenty-six women received free mammograms through Community Health Imaging Centers and Komen San Diego’s funded mobile mammography coach. Attendees were also able to receive free blood pressure and blood sugar checks for both Kaiser Permanente members and non-members. Attendees also had the opportunity to browse a Farmers Market courtesy of Project New Village where they could purchase fresh produce from local farmers, prepared food, crafts, and more.
“I’m glad the community is given these opportunities to bring awareness to their health,” said Stephanie, a San Diego resident, “It’s important to take advantage of our community health resources, it’s why they exist.”
The next whole health community outreach event will be on Wednesday, July 5. To see if you qualify for a free mammogram and would like to schedule an appointment, contact Wendy Shurelds at 858-573-2760.
